Ready to set their second LP "Our Earthly Pleasures" loose Maximo Park are a band that in this current music climate should have a very bright future indeed. With indie rock ruling the airwaves and chart once again the stars seem to have aligned to allow Maximo Park to take their rightful place among the indie heavyweights. Ever since i heard a demo of "Apply Some Pressure" in late 2004 I became an instant fan of Paul Smiths lyrical talent and vocal delivery. The Bands 2005 album "A Certain Trigger" took the listener on a journey with Smith presenting himself as a very able storyteller. New album "Our Earthly Pleasures" (Released April 2 2007) provides another set of songs bursting with energetic guitars and driving bass and drums, along with the distinctive sound of Lukas Wooller's keyboard. Paul Smiths vocal stylings and lyrics are still as intriguing as ever and cant help but pull in the listener again and again. From opening statement "you've been with me a year to the day" to his final remarks "i love the tiny veins on your back they remind me of the way that porcelain cracks" smith draws you in and gives you a glimpse into his world. Although this album doesnt instantly grab you as a whole on first listen, it provides enough to make you want to go back and listen to it again and its on repeated listens that "Our earthley Pleasures" will provide you with the most enjoyment. It is what many people would refer to as a "grower".Songs such as "Girls Who Play Guitars","Books From Boxes" and "By The Monument" will ensure that Maximo Park go from strength to stength and become one of the premiere commercially successful UK based indie bands of this year giving bands like the Kaiser Chiefs and Arctic Monkeys a run for their money.
